STORY
U-Report and U-Bridge
UBridge Arua

This Program was launched in Arua, in Vvura subcounty on August 12th, 2014, The U- bridge platform
serves as an instant communication link between the district officials and the citizens. Since the launch a
total of seventy three (73) community sensitization meetings involving 13 sub-counties in Arua district have been held. The platform is highly functional with messages being exchanged between the district officials and the community.

Every actionable message from the community should initiate a dialogue with the respective departmental officer. Not all concerns however are within the mandate or even the capacity of the district local government to address. In the comments below are two different dialogues registered in the months of August and September 2014.

Dialogue held between August 25 and September 1, 2014:

Community: I am part of UBridge. I would like to say that our reports on poor road network is still paining us. Through UBridge our problem will be solved. Which is Uleppi-Alijoda road. I am sending from Arua district ogoko sub count enyio parish palandra village.

District Official: Thank you for responding

Community: We are expecting response from u-report about improvement of road from Alijoda - Uleppi road. I
am reporting from Arua district Ogoko sub county Enyio parish Palandra village.

Community: Congratulation, Ubridge.  Today Uleppi- Alijoda road was worked on. Government has heard our cry to improve on transport network. I am sending from Arua district, Ogoko sub count Palandra village Enyio parish.

Dialogue held between September 17 and September 18, 2014:

Community:  IN BONDO ARMY SECONDARY SCHOOL ABOUT THIRTY STUDENTS WERE SENT HOME FOR COMING LATE, THEIR PARENTS WERE CALLED TO SIGN LAST WARNIG LETTERS ! IS THIS REALISTIC?

District Official:  We should encourage children to come early to school so that performance improves

Community: WE ACCEPT THE DISCUSSION ON THE MASSAGE AND THE DECISSION TAKEN, THANKS

The two dialogues above show that the community is raising service delivery concerns and there is an opportunity for quick response from the district local government on the issue. A total of one hundred fifty five messages deemed actionable were received within the first month onto the U-bridge platform since the launch on 12th August 2014.

Analysis of these messages received in the first month of operation as community sensitization meetings were being held based on the relevant department.
See by the numbers how we are engaging youth voices for positive social change.
